Biography

Hai Duc Nguyen is a PhD student in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Chicago. He obtained his B.E in Computer Engineering from Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology (HCMUT, also known as Bach Khoa University) in 2016 and M.S in Computer Science from University of Chicago in 2019. During his time at HCMUT, Hai contributed to projects concerning constructing storage systems for large datasets by exploiting advanced hardware architectures. The results of his research are playing a crucial role in BK Smart Traffic — a real-time traffic monitoring system used by the local government and people in Ho Chi Minh City for dealing with the traffic congestion during rush hours. At the University of Chicago, Hai works under the supervision of Prof. Andrew A. Chien in the Zero-Carbon Cloud Project, in which he is studying to leverage the serverless model for maximizing the values of computation resources and software solutions at minimum efforts. His research interests include Cloud Computing, with strong focus on Serverless, Edge Computing and IoT, Large-scale Systems, and High-Performance Computing.
