Our Customer Stories
Since its foundation more than ten years ago, High-Performance Computing Lab – HCMUT VNU not only has launched many high-performance computing and big data analysis projects but also has been providing the powerful computer system SuperNode-XP to support users from potential research groups.
Specifically, these groups are exploiting computational resources effectively for various purposes of remarkable product creation and revolutionary research.

VASP and Quantum Expresso from INOMAR

Currently, Center for Innovative Materials and Architectures (INOMAR) uses computing resources of up to 8 compute nodes on the SuperNode-XP system. Each node requires 48 processor cores using Intel Xeon Phi accelerator cards to support large compute-intensive applications. Running applications are VASP and Quantum Expresso to simulate the structure of nanomaterials and molecules. One of the results from the VASP application on SuperNode-XP is detailed molecular motion simulations as the picture beside.

Research on gas and environment with Vietnamese-German University

The leader of the research team is Prof. Joerg Franke and Ph.D. student Pham Ha Thanh. The library being used is OpenFOAM to simulate research projects on gas – environment. Currently supported computing resources up to 96 processor cores, about 128 GB RAM with data storage capacity up to TB. Here is the simulation result.

Research on Water Resources between CARE Rescif Center and Ho Chi Minh University of Technology

The representative of the research team is Assoc.Prof.Dr. Nguyen Thong from the Department of Water Resources – Faculty of Civil Engineering – Ho Chi Minh University of Technology and research specialist Dr. Patrick Marchesiello from Research Director at the CARE Center. The libraries and applications running on SuperNode-XP are OpenTelemac and Weather Research Forecasting. The research results are aimed at the process of simulating and predicting floods, saltwater intrusion (the beside feature), shoreline landslides in Ho Chi Minh City, Mekong Delta, Hoi An, etc.
